Hungerford Bowling Club news from Press Officer John Conn
Friendly indoors fixture with West Berks Indoor BC, 21 January 2012
Greetings Bowlers and welcome to February..... Brrrrr Cold Innit? From time immemorial or even longer we have played an indoors fixture with West Berks Indoor BC. It is a "friendly " match and our record of success leaves much to be desired. Most of us playing on this occasion are outdoor bowlers and a bit lusty in our approach to bowling on a billiards table. However here is Paul's report on the match together with a few snaps.
Once again this annually played indoor fixture was played in very good spirit, despite only 11 of the 24 players taking part playing regularly indoors.
Rink 1 -: Terry Noble, John Stamp, Ray Hutt and Anne Ward
Rink 2 -: Vic Lardner, Kay Quartermaine, Pat Oakden and Paul Ratcliffe
Rink 3 -: John Conn, Liz Doling, David Uprichard, and Keith Hughes
Rink 4 -: Tony Hundleby, Marion Uprichard, Barbara Connor and Alan Bartter
Rink 5 -: Tracey Pearce, Peter Harries, Glynn Harris, and Brian Liddiard
Rink 6 -: Peter Huntingford, Sonja Heath, Jennifer Bartter and Ernie Hughes
Whilst the first 5 ends were contested well, Hungerford leading by 4 shots at this stage, Hungerford started to lose ground at 10 ends by 26 shots, 40 shots by the 15th end and finally losing by 53 shots over all. Hungerford did, however, have one winning rink, that being Alan Bartter’s rink, winning by 4 shots and Anne Ward’s rink must feel disappointed at losing by 1 shot on the final end.
It is very pleasing to know that we are able to fulfil this fixture ever year and I think that, if we had more members who play regularly indoors the game would be more hotly contested. However, despite the result a nice afternoon was spent in good company and I thank all those who played.
