Hungerford Bowling Club history

Situated in the tranquil and beautiful Croft Green and sharing a sports area with the Tennis Club, the Bowling Green dates from the early part of the last century and was formally affiliated to the Royal County of Berkshire Bowling Association in 1924.

The year 2009 saw a celebration of the 85th Anniversary of our club and several special matches were associated with this.

Our Records show that no less than three of our former Members served as County Presidents namely D Brittain 1977, J Davies 1982, and E Hill in 1987. Alan Bartter, our oft-times Club President and long serving member of the Club and County, was honoured as Berkshire County President in 2003. His Presidency was closely followed by Chairmanship of the County Vice Presidents Association and Committee Member of the County Benevolent Fund.

  • 1986: R Bailey and E Hill, Pairs
  • 1946: H Bushnell, J Seddon and R Newbook, Triples
  • 1986: AP Bartter T Hooson A Bartter H Vellender, Fours
  • 2002 and 2006: AP Bartter, Champion of Champions, Singles
  • 1987: B Liddiard, E Hughes, K Hughes, Benevolent Triples
